About Ms.Kepas
I
Welcome to my class! This is my seventh year teaching at Mountain Ridge. My favorite author is Ernest Hemingway. My favorite book is without a doubt John Steinbeck's East of Eden. I think eighth graders are some of the coolest and funniest people on the planet. Discussing and exploring world mythologies is one of the things I like most about my job. I enjoy writing stories about my childhood neighborhood. (Ask me about J.L.I.O. sometime.)
This is a geeky picture of me with a bust of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the author of America's beloved poem "Paul Revere's Ride."
I graduated from Utah Valley University with a bachelor's degree in English Education in 2007. I then went on to earn my master's in Education, Culture, and Society at the University of Utah in 2010. I also have my Reading Endorsement. Applying the new things I learn in my classroom is extremely rewarding for both me and my students. One of my personal mottos is to never stop learning.
Outside of school, I have a beautiful daughter and a chihuahua with halitosis. I enjoy being active; hiking, running, and practicing yoga are some of my favorite things to do. If I had it my way, feta cheese would be its own food group. When I should be doing chores, I can often be found on my couch curled up with a good book instead. (WARNING: I don't recommend doing this in junior high, because it may result in you being grounded for not completing your chores.)
